Daniel Defoe

The Alagoas is a State of the east coast of the Brésil. It is bordered in north and the North-East by the State of Pernambuco, in the east by the Atlantic Ocean, in the south by the State of Sergipe and in south-west by the State of Bahia.

It has a surface of 27.731 km ² and a population of 3.015.912 inhabitants.

The most populated cities are: Maceió, Arapiraca, Palmeira back Índios, União back Prize list and Rio Largo. Altitude is low, in general in lower parts from the 300 Mr. São Francisco, Mundaú and Paraíba C Meio is the most important rivers.

Its capital is Maceió.

History

Until 1817, Alagoas belonged to the Pernambouc and followed its history. It was separate after the missed revolution which had organized an independent Brazilian government there. It became in 1822, a province of the new Brazilian state.

In 1839, Maceio replaces Marechal Deodoro like capital.

Until 1960, Alagoas maintained its characteristics colonial: the company depends on rich person and the big families. After this date, an effort of modernization brought the exploitation of rock salt and oil. Tourism is also in frank progression.
