Daniel Darc

Daniel Darc (born Daniel Rozoum the May 20th 1959 with Paris) was the singer of the group Taxi Girl of 1978 with 1986, and continuous since a career solo.

Biography

In 1978, whereas he is pupil with the Lycée Balzac in Paris, he joined the group Taxi Girl, founded by Mirwais Stass (Guitare S), Laurent Sinclair (Clavier S), Stephan Erard (bass player) and Pierre Wolfsohn (beater).

The singer of Girl Taxi was always unclassable in the scene rock'n'roll Frenchwoman of which it is one of the outstanding figures. Very marked by the arrival of the Sex Pistols, the explosion Punk and Kraftwerck, it is initially a forgery Dandy with the fragile voice and trailing, inspired by Berlin and the Japan, which gets dressed in rocker and which pushes the self-destruction until slicing the veins at the time of a concert to the Palace in first part of Talking Heads in November 1979 to make react the public Paris IEN.

After the end of Girl Taxi in 1986 (marked by the death by overdose of the Beater, Pierre Wolfsohn, in July 1981, and the departure of the two other members), it continues a career solo. It appears in some films in its own role: Children of Blank or the wild Boy of Marc Dufaud.

On its first album solo ( Under divine influence ), left in 1987, it is shouldered by Jacno (ex- Stinky Toys, ex- Elli and Jacno) which had agreed to work with him on the basis of individual but will carry out the whole album: on this disc which sounds much as of Jacno, musical side, Daniel Darc preserve the simple and immediate writing which is its trademark since the time Taxi Girl. In the middle of this organized enough album, one very raises the presence of a title rock' roll ( the Only boy on ground ) and of a cover of How to tell you good-bye , title written by Gainsbourg and popularized by Francoise Hardy.

In 1988, after its meeting with Bill Pritchard (they then share the same label, Play It Again Sam), they record in 7 days the Album-concept Because treating human ambivalence. On this album, one finds a resumption of Aznavour (giving its title to the album) and an adaptation of the Velvet Underground ( Stephany says ). Drawn voluntarily with 3.000 specimens, this rare and invaluable album, greeted by the critic, will seal indéfectibles bonds between the two artists who will live even a time together in Paris.

Always in 1988, it records the City, very beautiful individual produced by Etienne Daho which, unfortunately will not be followed of a project of album, as that had been the case with Jacno. It has toujous however evil to separate its addictions.

1994 will have to be waited until to discover a new album of Daniel Darc: it is at Bondage Records, independent, that Nijinsky will leave, disc much more succeeded than the precedents as well from the point of view of the musical arrangements as of the care and inventiveness brought to the texts. Accompanied, for this disc, by Georges Betzounis (ex- Pure Sins and current Delaney Blue), Daniel Darc seems to have had, more than in the past, the possibility of imposing a musical orientation near to its fundamental tastes (New Yorkean Rock, literature of the evil, jazz…). Pure Sins will accompany Daniel Darc in the supposed round to promote the disc but the absence of business success combined with invading problems of various addictions and a passage in prison put the career of Daniel Darc between bracket for a few years.

Daniel Darc is impassioned of Mythologie “rock'n'roll” as much as Littérature and of martial arts (as Jean-Jacques Burnel of the Stranglers which produced an album of Girl Taxi). He wrote many articles on his icons: first rockers, bluesmen, actors… of James Dean to Nijinsky. Although having on several occasions announced that he wrote a novel, even which he was about to complete one of them (the title the Angel frozen was advanced), Daniel Darc will not arrive by making lead his desires of writing differently than by publishing short news to the Éditions Books Of Night or Behind the Bathroom starting from half of the Nineties. He also publishes criticisms in Best and translated William Burroughs. The texts of its songs carry the mark of its style from where the Poésie is never absent. Wanting to break with nearly twenty years of various excesses, it then converted with the Protestantisme.

The year 2003 mark its rebirth near the general public. It leaves a compilation, then, the year according to, a new album, Bad cold-heart , conceived out of tandem with Frederic Lo, joint author and corealisator of the disc but especially craftsman of the exit of the desert for Daniel Darc, with whom it allows to sign again with a major (Universal Music) and to meet a renewal of notoriety. It starts a round, in first part of Alain Bashung, with a group, accompanied by a piano or in common round with Bill Pritchard.

It contributes then to various productions with Cali, Buzy, Tchéky Karyo, Elisa Tovati, Thierry Amiel or Alizée. Beginning 2007, it takes part in the round the Adventurers of another World with Jean-Louis Aubert, Alain Bashung, Cali, Richard Kolinka and Raphael.

In January 2008 will leave the album successor Crêve-heart , conceived again with Frederic Lo. The title leader advertisement is supreme Amours , in reference to has Coils Supreme , an album of John Coltrane whose Daniel Darc did one of his discs of bedside. Alain Bashung, Robert Wyatt, Morgane (singer of Cocoon) and Steve Nieve should make appearances there. The first individual one is entitled I will go to the paradise .
