Daniel Arasse

Daniel Arasse , born in 1944 with Paris and deceased the December 14th 2003, is a historian of art and a italianophile (a italomaniaque according to him).

Biography

Daniel Arasse between with the National university in 1965. It obtains the aggregation of traditional letters, then starts a thesis with the Sorbonne with André Chastel on the Italian art of the Renaissance; following an incident, told in Stories of paintings ( the stolen Thesis ), Daniel Arasse exchange of director and subject and supports a thesis under the direction of Louis Marin with EHESS.

From 1969 to 1993, he teaches the history of the Modern art of the 15th century at the 19th century, in the Sorbonne Paris I and Paris IV. From 1971 to 1973, he is member of the French École of Rome. From 1982 to 1989, it directs the French Institute of Florence where it creates the festival France Cinema . Starting from 1993 he is director of study to EHESS.

In 2003, it directs the exposure Botticelli to the Musée of Luxembourg.

He dies on December 14th, 2003 following a degenerative disease. In spite of that, it continued its activities until its last moments.

In addition to its professional profile, it is famous in the general public lit by its love of the division of its analyzes of works in which it is defended “on-to interpret” the contents: He prefers to emphasize the comprehension of the visible elements by all while relearning to look at and not to subject excessively the figurative one to the order of the erudite speech of the iconography.
