The business of the Grey Album

It created an important controversy in 2004 with The Grey Album , a pirate disc, widely distributed via the Téléchargement on Internet and prohibits a few days after its launching. The Grey Album (the gray album) is a mashup of the album éponyme of the Beatles, known under the name of White Album (white album) and of the Black Album (black album) of the Rappeur Jay-Z. The company EMI, which holds the rights of the White Album , immediately required the withdrawal of the work of Danger Foams, which had never asked for the rights of use the songs of Beatles. On the other hand, the recordings has cappella of Jay-Z were made available free by the artist.

Supported by supporters which created the Grey Tuesday , one day (Tuesday February 24th 2004) during which the extracts of the Grey Album were available free on different Web sites as a protest against EMI, by the criticisms favorable, and encouraged by the press coverage that the incident caused, the popularity of the mash up went growing.

The business Grey Album also gave place to the creation of several mash more or less serious ups, taking again the recordings of the Black Album of Jay-Z, for example the Black and Blue Album , a mash up of the black album of the rappor and blue album of Weezer.

Its legal concern with EMI being transformed into remote loadings per million, Damon Albarn the reference mark and recovers it to produce the album Demon Days of Gorillaz.

A recognized artist

The leg " DangerMouse" is easily recognizable. One easily includes/understands a structure often common to his work in particular those bearing on Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley. The percussions are not left, the sound is often rough, the effects of compressions give a texture which recalls the Sixties. The samples used seldom identifiable, because are worked over again. Danger Mouse is also producer the album The good, the Bad and the Queen of the éponyme group. One sees it with synthé or the percussions on certain titles.
