Dancer at the school of the Royal Ballet

Danseuse at the school of the Royal Ballet is a series of eight Romance written by Alexandra Moss, which tell the history of Emily Brown, an young girl who dreams to become Danseuse. They appeared with the editions Gallimard Jeunesse (2006 - 2007).

Synopsis

Hearing ( Ellie' S Chance to Dance ): in the first volume of the series, Emily Brown is ten years old. She moves with Oxford and leaves the town of Chicago where she grew. She does not have a father and his/her mother is sick. Emily goes to new school and integrates the course of dance of Mrs. Franklin where it meets a girl of its age, Melissa. At the end of a few months, Emily was already made much friends of which its Chloé neighbor. A girl of its school, Rachel, is brutal with it and “Miss Tutu Rose calls it”. She is in fact jealous of her. Emily also takes part in the courses junior of the Royal Ballet and dreams to make a success of hearing to enter to the prestigious school of the Royal Ballet.
First Spectacle ( Lara' S Leap to Faith ): Emily made a success of its hearing like Grace, a girl of the course junior. Melissa did not have this chance. Emily also finds in White Lodge Matt, a boy very sympathetic nerve which she knew the previous year. Emily returns in sixth, follows courses of dance each morning and makes studies ordinary the afternoon. She lives now in a dormitory with ten other girls. Only one does not accept it as friendly because she hustled it the day of hearing. The Royal Ballet will assemble the ballet Casse-Noisette for Christmas. Emily hopes to play a small role there. The mother of Emily received a proposal of Steve, the factor which it met the previous year.
a new pupil ( Isabelle' S Perfect Performance ): after the holidays of Christmas, Emily finds his friends of the dormitory and realizes that a new pupil will arrive: Isabelle Armand. This one is French and is very gifted in all the disciplines. But it shows sympathetic nerve towards her comrades little. Emily will realize that Isabelle is in fact unhappy because his/her parents are separate. And it will try to help it. The evaluations to enter in fifth soon will have place and Emily and his/her friends are very stressed.
the Contest ( Sophie Flight off Fancy ): poor Sophie! She cannot enter in fifth because she failed the evaluation and will leave the school at the end of the third quarters. A big competition is organized. To take part in it a choreography should be invented. Grace is registered immediately. As for Sophie, even if it means to leave, it is better that she leaves in a “fireworks glory” and she is registered with the contest. Some times per week, Sophie will see the director of Lower School and this one gives him booklets to which Sophie does not pay any attention. And it is by throwing its rubber band under the bed of Sophie that Emily will discover the booklets on the schools of spectacle. One of them is precisely in the town of Sophie. Who says better?
the Secrecy of Kate ( Kate' S Special Secret ): two famous dancers, Lim Soo May and Christopher Blackwell, will come to the Royal Ballet, will attend a course of dance and will select the best young people dancers of sixth for a training course. Emily hopes to be selected. Kate does not appear interested and is distant towards his/her comrades. Those think that it is in love with a boy of the school.
Panic in slides ( Grace Show off Strengh ): it is the end of the year. The dancers of the class of sixth will take part in a spectacle which will be played Royal Opera. Emily is delighted because it is selected among the main roles with her friend Matt like rider. It worries for Grace which has a very strange behavior. His/her mother is disappointed because it did not have the main role and wants that it is involved much. Emily will try to help it by requiring council of its guide of fifth, Jessica.
an animated re-entry ( New Girl ): it is the re-entry and Emily returns in fifth. She is not any more in the same dormitory and division a room with Jade, Grace and the news: Molly Baker which tardily began the dance thanks to an idea of his/her friend. The young girl is very gifted and very sympathetic nerve. Only Jade does not testify its friendship to him. She regrets beacoup Sophie and his/her parents separated during the holidays. Emily has just fallen in love with a boy from his class, Luke Bailey. Molly is often made rectify by its professor of dance Miss Black and much suffers from it.
the Choice of Emily ( Servant boys gold Ballet? ): After school vacations, Emily finds his/her friends and his Luke boyfriend. The young girl does not manage to return her duties, to spend time with her friends and to see Luke as a long time as she would like it. Emily is selected to play in the Lake of the swans like Grace, Jade, Isabelle, Laura and some other young girls of fifth. Poor Laura is wounded at the time of a course of dance and risk to more be able to dance. Molly which had not been selected to play in the Lake of the swans is selected to replace it. Emily will have to choose between its love for Luke and the dance.

Characters

Emily Brown : Emily is an American young person whose dream is to become dancer. She has ten years at the commencement of the series and twelve with the end. She is sign of the ram and is only daughter. She almost did not know her father. She is done many friends in Oxford and with the Royal Ballet but his/her best friend remains Sarah, her friend of childhood. Emily will fall in love in fifth with a boy with the school, Luke Bailey. It will take part in the two spectacles of the Royal Ballet for Christmas, " Breakage-Noisette" and " The lake of the cygnes". It will rompera with Luke in " The choice of Emily" because she does not think any more of her duties and does not spend any more time with his/her friends. Finally it will remain friendly with Luke without being in love.
Mrs. Brown : it is the mother of Emily. She is reached of a disease and becomes professor at the university of Oxford during her removal. It remarie in the second book of the series with a factor, Steve. She wants that the dreams of his/her daughter are carried out.
Steve : it is the father-in-law of Emily. It is factor. At the beginning, Emily does not appreciate the idea to divide his/her mother into two but when this one informs him of the proposal of Steve, it accepts.
Sarah : it is the friend of childhood of Emily. They knew each other with the kindergarten and like much. Sarah offers to Emily a diary in the first volume. Whereas Emily leaves to Oxford, Sarah remains in Chicago. They will be written and remained friendly. Emily will re-examine Sarah in the fifth book of the series the Secrecy of Kate .
Chloé : it is the neighbor of Emily to Oxford. The two young girls will quickly become friendly. They will separate when Emily enters to the Royal Ballet.
Melissa : Melissa and Emily will meet with the courses of Mrs. Franklin. Melissa will not manage to enter to the Royal Ballet but will continue the dance with the Franklin Academy.
Grace Holding : Emily met Thanks to the courses juniors. They have both made a success of hearing for the Royal Ballet. Grace is one of the best friends of Emily. She dances with talent. But in volume 6, Panic in slides , Grace will be shown very strange with the eyes of his/her friends. It is pushed by her mother who did not make a success of the entry with the Royal Ballet and which wants that his/her daughter has best the roles and that is to say best course.
Laura Mc Cloud : Laura has beautiful russet-red hair and dance marvelously well. She did not get along well with Emily at the beginning, because she thought that she had purposely made push it during hearing so that she does not enter to the Royal Ballet. She plans to leave the school after the holidays of Christmas but, when Emily makes a typing error for the date of Casse-Noisette by sending email to his/her parents, Laura will be the only one with being able to help it. Only, at the time of " The choice of Emily" , Laura will be wounded and will not be able to dance " the lake of the swans
Sophie Crawford : Sophie is the most impulsive girl of the dormitory. She adores the musical comedies. She often tells with charts the future of her friends. But when Sophie misses the evaluation, it will not be any more the same one. It is with the assistance that Sophie finds her cheerfulness. It will go in a school of spectacle to Manchester, the city where it lives. Sophie also adores to sing. She dreamed to have a little sister and his/her parents announce to him at the end of volume 4, the Contest , which she will have small a sœoor or a little brother. One of the friends who like it more and Jade.
Kate Walker : Kate is the girl of a famous dancer. It of known as at the nothing beginning with his/her comrades, not wanting that one compares it with his mother when it had her age or that it is believed that it is thanks to this one that it succeeded in entering to the Royal Ballet. Its secrecy will be revealed in the Secrecy of Kate . The parents of Kate divorced and his/her mother remariée herself with Christopher Blackwell, a very good dancer also.
Jade Andrews : Jade Andrews is brown. She does not appear much in the albums of the series. That where it appears more is an animated re-entry where it has many problems. At Easter, his/her parents announced to him that they were going to divorce. During summer holidays, his/her father took it along to see his new apartment and his Wendy boyfriend. Jade is the friend most attached to Sophie. Also with its departure, Jade shows grognon with Molly because she thinks that she has " remplacé" Sophie.
Molly Baker : Molly is non-existent in the first books of the series. It arrives only at the seventh volume, an animated re-entry . Molly began the dance at nine years. It was at the beginning, an idea of his/her best friend. That made years that the friend of Molly wanted to take courses of dance. Molly at the beginning was not very decided but finally returned with his/her friend during dance. Its professor was very nice and thanks to Miss Purvis, who proposed to him to take part in a course with the sixth of the Royal Ballet so much it was gifted. It thus has was taken to enter in fifth. Molly will suffer much at the beginning which its professor rectifies it in its released, in its wearing of arm… Like some girls of the course: Grace and Laura, Molly prefers to leave the school before being returned. But with Emily, Molly will remain. She will play after the accident of Laura in the lake of the swans .
Isabelle Armand : initially hated by the sixth because of her claim and her prowesses to all the courses, Isabelle Armand, like Jade and Kate, is separated by her parents. Isabelle is French and does not love much his/her mother with whom it very often disputes. She goes until throwing her telephone against the wall after a conversation with Mrs. Armand. His/her father is in America. Isabelle, thanks to Emily, will be accepted little by little by the girls of the dormitory. One hardly sees it in an animated re-entry . It is very attached to Emily, Kate and especially to Laura.
Mrs. Hall : it is supervising it of the sixth. It is shown sometimes severe and other very soft times. It awakes Emily with its " Hello girls! " usual.
Miss Wells : it is the professor of dance of the fifths. It is demanding with its pupils but very sympathetic nerve.
Mrs. Parrish : it is supervising it of the cinquèmes. It will be of a great help for Emily in the Choice of Emily . The fifths like it much.
Miss Black : it is the professor of dance of the fifths. It appears Mrs. Parrish in just like an animated re-entry . It is in this book that Miss Black has the most importance.
Matt Haslum : it is a boy whom Emily met with the courses juniors of the Royal Ballet. He is his partner with the Danse of character. The two friends are charmed to find itself in White Lodge. Matt appears as of the first book of the series.
Luke Bailey : it is a boy to which Emily ready little attention in sixth but with which it falls in love in fifth. In the Choice of Emily , Emily decides to leave it because she does not arrive has to make her duties in time, to concentrate on her steps of dance and to spend time with her friends since Luke is his/her boyfriend. But they will remain friendly.
Holly, Megan, Alice, Scarlett, Rebecca : they are the comrades of Emily at the school of the Royal Ballet. Alice is particularly important in an animated re-entry . The others are more discrete.
friends of Emily to Chicago : they are mainly quoted in the Hearing where they send gifts to Emily for Christmas. Libby is quoted.
Ruby, Tasha and Rachel : they are the comrades of Emily and Chloé at the elementary school of Oxford. Rachel is shown at the unpleasant beginning towards Emily of which it is jealous. But, when Rachel learns that Emily does not have a father and that his/her mother is sick, it will express more sympathy to him.
Mrs. Franklin : it is the director of the Franklin Academy. She loves much her pupils and hopes that they will become one dancers day.
Miss Lane : it is the professor of dance of Emily to Chicago.
professors of White Lodge : Mr. Top, Miss Swaisland, Mr. Lewis and other professors appear in First Spectacle and make afterwards more or less noticed appearances.
