Dance hall in the Street
Dancing in the Street is an American song written by William Stevenson, Ivy OJ Hunter and Marvin Gaye.
The song knew several important interpretations, the first being that of Martha and the Vandellas in July 1964 at Motown records under the Gordy label. It is about a title emblematic of the beginnings of Motown, and it is also the title which made known Martha Reeves and its group.
The most famous resumption of the title is undoubtedly that of Mick Jagger and David Bowie in 1985, within the framework of the Live Aid. Inter alia interpreters of the song, one can quote Nikki Webster, the group Van Halen, Dusty Springfield, The Mamas & The Papas, The Who, The Grateful Dead, The Kinks, Atomic Kitten, Human Nature and well of others.
