Danbury (Connecticut)

Danbury is a city located in the county of Fairfield, in the State of the Connecticut (the United States). According to the census of 2000, Danbury had a total population of 74.848 inhabitants, and according to the estimate of June 1st 2004, the population would rise with 78.263 inhabitants. However, the current mayor of the city, Mark Boughton announced into 2005 that the real figure would be approximately 90.000 inhabitants, because of the recent waves of immigration coming from Latin America. According to an estimate, 5.000 Ecuadorians and 15.000 Brazilian would live in Danbury. The city would have been named in the honor of several colonists coming from Danbury in the Essex, in England.

According to the Office of the Census of the United States, surface of the east city of 114,7 km ², including 109,1 km ² of grounds and 5,7 km ² of water levels (either 4,94%).

Demography

According to the Census of 2000, there were 74.848 inhabitants, 27.183 households, and 17.886 families in the city. The Population density was of 686,3 hab/km ². There were 28.519 houses with a density of 261,5 maisons/km ². The ethnic decomposition of the population was: 75,96% white; 6,76% black; 0,29% Amerindian; 5,45% Asian S; 0,03% natives of the islands of the Peaceful ; 7,55% of the other races; 3,95% of two or more races. 15,75% of the population were Hispanique or Latino of any race.

There were 27.183 households, of which 30,3% had children of less than 18 years, 51,1% were married couples , 10,5% had a woman who was isolated relative, and 34,2% were not-family households. 26,2% of the households were made up people alone and 8,5% 65 years people alone or more. The average household comprised 2,64 people and the average family had 3,18 people.

In the city the population pyramid was 21,7% below 18 years, 10,2% from 18 to 24,35,4% from 25 to 44,21,7% from 45 to 64, and 11,0% which were 65 years old or more. The median age was 35 years. For 100 women, there were 96,2 men. For 100 18 year old women or more, there were 94,3 men.

The median income by household of the city was 53.664 US Dollars, and the median income by family was $61 899. The men had a median income of $39 016 compared with $31 319 for the women. The Revenu per capita of the city was $24 500. 8,0% of the inhabitants and 5,9% of the families lived under the Poverty line. 8,7% of the people of less than 18 years and 8,3% of the people of more than 65 years lived under the poverty line.
