Damon

Damon the Musician , wire of Damonides, the town of Oe (sometimes called " Oa"), dependant on Athens, was an adviser of Périclès.

The Musician or the adviser?

The field of expertise of Damon was supposed to relate to musicology, although some thought that it was only one manner of extending its influence on the businesses of State. It is said that Damon is responsible to have advised Péricles to remunerate sworn for their services. This measurement was largely criticized and one says that he was banished for that, certainly in the last third of the 5th century before JC.

Plato often evokes Damon in its République as a musician experienced and considered for his details in musical education. Damon is still quoted by Plato as raises of Prodicus and Agathocles. The first was a sophist without shame while the second would have made use of his musical talents to become sophist.
