Dammartin-in-Serf is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.
Its inhabitants is called Dammartinois.
Geography
- the commune is located on a plate gullied at the south by the Ru of Ouville which is thrown in Vaucouleurs, affluent of the Seine, and at the north which goes up soft inclined until the altitude of 168m on the Hillock of Dammartin. The average altitude of the downtown area is of 131m.
- Dammartin-in-Serf is on an argillaceous zone in lower part of which succeed of limestones and sands rich in fossils.
History
- Of Latin Domus Martinus , the commune is the property of the abbey of Saint-Germain-of-meadows at the 11th century. A monastery is founded there at the 12th century then transformed into farm with the Revolution.
- It knows an important economic advancement at the 16th century thanks to the creation of a large market and two fairs.
Economy
- the economic fabric is that of a rurbaine city: i.e. mainly made up of line of business public (post office, inter-commune schools…), of small shops (bakery, coffee, pharmacy, hardware, florist…) and of artisanal companies (painting, masonry…).
Culture
- the Museum of the Old Esparto manufacture, municipal structure founded in 1994 by Fabien BARRIER and managed by association CRHISODES (Research center Historical and Sociological of Dammartin-In-Serf) makes it possible to discover the local inheritance (natural sites, history, vestiges archaeological…).
- the commune is the head office of the first tourist host country (STALEMATE) created 1996 in Ile-de-France area, called the " Country of the Steps of Yvelines". The purpose of this inter-commune association is to develop inheritance and local economy by tourism.
