Variations and localities
The commune is composed of the villages of Dambach and Neunhoffen, as well as hamlets of Wineckerthal and Neudoerfel.
History
The village named successively Tambaum , Tambach then finally Dambach or Tambach . The name of the commune could come from German Dambock signifiaint Daim although the valley is not inhabited by this animal. It could also derive from high-German Tamm meaning the dam . The latter seems more probable since the village is located in a valley innondable surrounded by dams and stoppings. The suffix Bach (brook) points out the river of the Schwarzbach traversing the valley.
In 1280, Dambach belongs to the lords of Windstein then, to the 14th century, the seigniory of Bitche. This one yields the village to the lords de Hohenfels with the castle of the same name.
At the 14th century, the village falls under the domination from Ettendoff, lords of Sturzelbronn.
To the 15th century, the village passes under protection of évêché of Strasbourg, following the extinction of the seigneurat of Ettendoff.
After the French revolution, the village is attached to the canton of Niederbronn-the-Baths in 1790. The area is one of the ancient sites oldest of the canton. Blocks of rock comprising of the scratches were found.
In the years 1930, the installation of the Line Maginot, involves the installation of the river, Swartzbach, of the stoppings make it possible to flood the valley in the event of intrusion of the enemy troops.
Armorial bearings
The Armoiries of the village are " of gold to the fasce of mouths " .
To the 15th century, the village belonged to the family of Schœneck from which the weapons result. At the time, the knights of the lords carried a scarf of the same color as the fasce of the blazon (here red) around their belt.
The gold yellow symbolizes the nobility, the intelligence, the virtue whereas the red of the fasce of mouths represents the desire to serve its fatherland. The weapons of Dambach have a great similarity with that of Falkenstein.
