Damavand

Damāvand (in Persan: دماوند) is a city of the Province of Teheran in Iran. It had a population of 29.831 inhabitants in 2006..

Damavand is an ancient city. The name Damavand appears in the texts Sassanides (named Dunbawand ) and of the vestiges Parthes were found in the city. The city fell to but from the Moslem invaders into 651.

The city is close to the more high summit of Iran to the homonymous name, the Mont Damavand, that Ferdowsi quotes abundantly in its Shâh Nâmâ.

The climate is relatively fresh there all the year.

Damavand has a rich historical heritage. The department contains 37 historical tombs (Imamzadeh S), 27 ruins of castles, 23 traditional houses, 18 public baths, 6 caves, 5 historical bridges, 3 Mosquée S and 3 Caravansérail S.

The mosque of the congregation of Damavand, built in 1409, carries traces of architecture Sassanide. An inscription in the name of Ismaïl Ier Safavi can be seen there.
