Dally Messenger

Dally Messenger , born the April 12th 1883 in Balmain in News-Wales of the South and deceased the November 24th 1959, is a player of Rugby to XV Australia N and of Rugby to XIII New Zealand and Australia N.

Biography

Dally Messenger was a player pioneer with the more high level. It is selected in team of Australia of Rugby to XV ( Wallaby ) in 1907, it disputes 2 Test match S then it integrates the team of Australia of Rugby into XIII ( Kangourou ), for 7 tests of 1908 to 1910.

Career of Rugby to XV

Born in Balmain, it grows in Double Bay in the News-Wales of the South, it joined the club of Eastern Suburbs RUFC in 1905. It evolves/moves at the station of center. It regularly forms part of the team of the New South Wales Rugby Union before integrating the Australian selection which plays against the All Blacks in 1907.

Career of Rugby to XIII

In 1907, Alec Burdon, player of XV of the team of Australia, broke the clavicle during a meeting against the New Zealand. In a total indifference, it did not accept any help for the care necessary and the refunding of certain expenses caused by its wound.

The Australian public opinion, sensitized by this fact, and the largest sportsmen of the moment took make and cause for him: Victor Trumper, a large cricketer, Jim Giltinam, player of Rugby, friend of Georges Smith and Dally Messenger, a famous Australian player of Rugby. They made proposals with the New Zealanders so that they agree to play under the rules of the new code, some meetings in Australia, on their road for the England.

The New Zealanders will agree to play Sydney three meetings against Australian teams. The first match took place the August 17th 1907 and opposed News-Wales of the South to New Zealand (8-12). Dally Messenger, shining during these meetings, was invited to take part in the round of the All Golds in England.

Of return in Australia Dally Messenger plays initially Rugby with XIII for the Sydney Roosters. Micky Gilds, Dally Messenger, Denis Lutge, Doug McLean snr and Johnny Rosewell begins all for the Kangaroos in the first test against the New Zealand.
