Dallara became manufacturer of Formule 1 in 1988, after being elected by the young Italian stable BMS-Scuderia Italia of Beppe Luchinni for the construction of a frame. Association will not balance rather average results (a podium for Andrea de Cesaris with GP of Canada 1989, another for JJ Lehto with GP of San Marino 1991) before ending at the conclusion of the season 1992, BMS-Scuderia Italia deciding to turn to the British manufacturer Lola.

The name Dallara made its reappearance in the beds at the end of the season 2004, when the Russian stable Midland, about to launch out in F1, planned to entrust the design of its frames to the Italian manufacturer. Finally, Midland repurchased the stable Jordan and was based on the know-how of the Irish stable to launch out in F1, Dallara intervening only as technical consultant.
