The place was named in 1826 and was incorporated in 1905.The town of Dalhousie began its economic advancement in 1930, when a mill with paper NBIP was built there. It was the beginning of its forestry economics. In the years which followed, the community knew a population growth which lasted until worms the end of the year 1970-1980.
In the Years 1990, the urbanization and centralization proved to be an imminent phenomenon, with the detriment of the north of the province. Then, one saw a massive rural migration towards the cities of the south of the province of the New Brunswick.
In the Years 2000, the city was with the catch with other problems: the crisis of the sawlog for export to the United States and the development of the Asian market. After the closing of the factory Smurfit Stone, which shook hard the town of Bathurst, the factory of Paste and papers (act. Bowater) was afraid. Thanks to an expensive and perilous decision, the future of this factory was thus saved.
However, on November 29th, 2007, one announced the permanent closure factory of Dalhousie for the beginning of the 1st quarter of 2008. In truth, this closing had the effect of a bomb, whereas 300 direct uses as several savings in agglomeration (what represents several thousands of workers who could possibly lose their employment because of the economic crisis to be envisaged) were reduced to nothings. Other details will be to come…
