Dainis Kūla

Dainis Kula , born the April 28th 1959, is old a Latvian Athlète , launcher of javelin, Olympic champion and bronze medal with the championships of the world. With the international level, it represented the Soviet Union.

To the beginning of the year 1980, during the preparation for the plays, Kūla launched to 90.30 m and right before the plays, there still to 92.06 Mr. the favorite remained nevertheless the Hungarian Ferenc Paragi which had launched in April to 96.72 m to hold the world records.

With the Olympic Games of 1980 with Moscow, Kūla drew the attention as of the preliminary tests - by for its throws, but to have bitten the line at the time of its first two attempts, all dependant on its last test. Although this last throw went very far, it was posed clearly flat without being planted. In front of local crowd, the official ones raised a white flag to validate the jet and to measure it, which is enough to qualify Kūla for the final. To its fourth test, it launched to 91.20 m which was the only throw of the finale to exceed the 90 m and meaning gold. The money returned to its compatriot Aleksandr Makarov for one doubled. The Hungarian favorite Paragi makes a success of only 79.52 in qualifications what prevented it from going finally.

Kūla still gained bronze with the championships of the world of 1983 to two centimetres only of the American Tom Petranoff medal-holder of money.

In 1986, with the new javelin, Kūla did not manage any more to belong to the world elite but it continued its career still a long time and took part after still in competitions after the independence of Latvia.
