Dagor Bragollach
Dagor Bragollach is a fictitious battle of the Ground of the Medium imagined by J.R.R. Tolkien, the fourth of the Wars of Beleriand carried out by the Elfes against Morgoth, the Lord of Darkness. It is described in Silmarillion. Its name means Bataille of the Sudden Flame and it is held during the First Age, into 455.
During this battle, the Seat of Angband, the fortress of Morgoth, finishes. Morgoth causes volcanic eruptions without precedent and floods the plain in the neighborhoods of torrents of flames, massacring the Elves who besiege Angband and the Thangorodrim. The battle thus began with the destruction of the plain of Ard-Galen, which was famous Anfauglith ( Poussière of anguish ) then by a violent attack of the Orcs come depths of Angband, carried out by Glaurung the Dragon. Hithlum, in the west, was held by Fingolfin, the Large King of the Elves, Fingon, his/her son and the Human ones and was not conquered; in the center of the battle, the country of Dorthonion fell in spite of a furious defense on behalf of the sons from Finarfin which lived there. To the east, although the sons of Fëanor fought bitterly, the collar of Aglon and the fortress of Himring fell, and the army of Maedhros, oldest son of Fëanor, and its brothers was dispersed. The battle ended in the duel between Morgoth and Fingolfin, where, in spite of its courage and its value, Fingolfin died. The battle was thus a great victory for Morgoth, but this last suffered from seven wounds inflicted by Fingolfin and a eighth with the face inflicted by the King of the Eagles Thorondor and dared never again to venture out of its underground fortress.
Dagor Bragollach is a terrible defeat for the Elves and the Edain which precedes the disaster of Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of the Innumerable Tears.
