Dagneux

Dagneux is a commune of the Département of Ain, district of Borough-in-Bresse (district of Trévoux before its suppression in 1926), canton of Montluel.

Geography

The commune is crossed by the Cottey.

History

One finds documents concerning the Saint-Nizier parish of Dagneux since 885, where the commune is called Dagnacum . Successive names: Dagniacum (885), Dagniacus (892), Dagniaco (1103), Danniacus (1103), Daignius (1199), Dagnieu (1236), Danneu (Ca 1250), Dagneu (1250), Daigneu (1255), Daigniacus (1263), Dagnieu (1577), Dagnieux (1794), Dagneux (1830).

Whereas it is still the principal parish of the sector, it is joined together with that of Notre-Dame of the Marshes (Montluel) when this one is set up into collegial at the request of the lord of Montluel. In certain authenticated documents one still finds name Notre-Dame church of the Marsh depend on the Saint-Nizier church of Dagneux until the middle of the XVIIIe century.

Under the Old Mode, Dagneux belonged to the Mandement of Montluel, Subdélégation of Trévoux, Bailliage, of the election of Bourg and of the Intendance of Dijon.

In 1792, during the creation of the communes, it is attached to the large commune of Montluel, at the same time as the parishes of Saint-Etienne, St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, Jailleux, Romanêche and even Boisse. Whereas the latter recovers its independence very quickly, it will be necessary to await a decree of Charles X, in 1829, so that Dagneux recovers its own identity.

It is for this period of annexation which number of Dagnards played their relations to obtain that Dagneux can finally again have a priest serving (instead of a occasional Vicaire) and especially clean municipal authorities, thus preventing from making profit Montluel from the receipts of taxes of the inhabitants of Dagneux without this hamlet being profit. Among these baited defenders, one could count the countess Ruolz de Mandelot, known at the time for his poetries.

Consequently, the commune will know a rebirth which will bring at the same time growth to him and modernization in spite of the reduced territory which was granted to him in 1829.

Today, equipped with a vast artisanal zone and always under development, the commune knows an important increase in population.
