Daf 44

The Daf 44 is a car model.

Eager to expand its range towards a family car, Daf decides in 1965 to create an average car: they will be the 44, more largely dimensioned, this car takes again the mechanics of the Daf 33, but carried to 850 cm ³. Unfortunately, if the 33 were ideal for the city, for which the 44 was also shown very at ease, the category of purchasers aimed by this car wanted to also move, and the small engine of 850 cm ³ and 40 DC quickly found its limit with four people and their luggage. However this car has very to like: a line drawn by Michelotti, of large doors facilitating the access on board, a trunk of good capacity.

One needs another more powerful engine for which Daf does not have the means of investing, although research was made towards a four-cylinder engine of 1100 cm ³, and even a Wankel. Daf then will turn to another manufacturer, Renault and will create the Daf 55 - Berline extremely comparable with the 44 but equipped with the 1108 cm ³ of the Renault 8. Extremely its successes in race, Daf leaves a Marathon version. This version sport, equipped with the engine of the Renault 8 S receives edge lines, an assistance of braking and a specific interior. Here also, the 55 will be declined in a range made up of a Coupé, the same one in Marathon, as well as pretty station-wagon.
