Short summary
Thomas, exceptionally gifted child, have just been eleven years old in this September 18th 1942. Into full Second world war, he lives in the south of the France, protected by his mother and from mysterious bodyguards. He is indeed the key which would make it possible the Gestapo to put the hand on 740 million deutschmarks intended for the resistance.Gregor Laƫmmle, a disillusioned professor of Philosophy by the life, intellectual shining, player of failures and pederast is named by the Nazis with the head of a team charged to find it and recover the money. Completely fascinated by the child, with half in love, he will seek as much to catch it that to protect it and to monopolize it.
The exceptionally gifted child and the canted intellectual will clash all along the novel in a kind of perverse strategic play whose extreme stake will be their own life like those of the people of their entourage, on bottom of Nazism and resistance.
