Barra da Tijuca is a district of the western zone of the town of Rio de Janeiro, more commonly called Barra .

Presentation

Barred has 18 kilometers of beach and 3 big lakes. It has four principal transportation routes: the Avenida das Americas (principal way of the district, which continues until the Recreio back Bandeirantes and which extends on 40 kilometers); the Avenida Armando Lombardi (continuation of the Avenida das Americas ); the Avenida Ayrton Senna (which connects Barra to the district of Jacarepaguá and the Linha Amarela); the Avenida Sernambetiba (which follows all the littoral).

Barred is recognized like a relatively new district, having an Index of average Human development (IDH=0,802).

The demographic data indicate that the area has grows of 44%, that is to say 124 thousand new inhabitants, in the decade of 1990. The greatest increase took place in second half of this decade, with a relative rate of 26%, that is to say 45.7 thousand new residents.

Curiosities

The new concert hall of the town of Rio de Janeiro is built in this moment with Barra (the end of work is envisaged in 2008) takes as a starting point the Cité of the Music, in Paris. It is the same architect, Christian de Portzamparc, which is the author of the original concept Cité of the Music.

With a turquoise water and special waves, the beach of Barred, largest of the city, is one of most required for the practitioners of Surf, Windsurf E of Bodyboarding. With much of bars, quiosques and restaurants, the beach of Barred attracts unceasingly a number increasingly higher visitors, with respect to “the great” beaches like Copacabana or Ipanema.

Disproportionate growth with involved an increase in criminality in the district (in particular in the means of transport).

To also note that the rate of elimination of illiteracy of the adults is of 99,38%, the higher second of Rio de Janeiro.
