DVCPRO

DVCPRO is a format Vidéo developed by Panasonic. It is in fact a professional version of the format FD intended to provide a complete environment of turning and post-production to the journalists reporters of images. It takes again the basic characteristics of them (format of band, standard of compression,…) but is characterized some by some basic differences.

Video

In the DVCPRO, the band is not any more metal type evaporated but with particles metal lying, which makes it robust. The tape speed was carried of 18,8 to 33,8 m/s, the width of the tracks being high with 18 µm against 10 µm for format FD. The structure of sampling of the video signal is of 4:1 type: 1. Panasonic justifies this choice by affirming that it gives better results in multigeneration that the 4:2: 0.

Audio

Format DVCPRO, can treat two sampled numerical tracks with 48 Khz and coded on 16 bits.

Formats

With time, Panasonic improved codec FD to cover applications HDTV with its formats DVCPRO50 (1998) and DVCPRO HD (2000). The DVCPRO50 doubles the speed of recording of cassettes DVCPRO and combines two codecs FD in parallel to record to 50 Mbit/s. DVCPRO HD further increases the speed of the cassette and combines four codecs FD in parallel to reach 100 Mbit/s.
