DK6

The thermal Powerplant DK6 is a power station with Cycle combined unique in France.

Of a electric output of 790 MW (the equivalent of a half nuclear section), DK6 is the most important power station with Cycle combined of France. (two sections with association of a Turbine with gas and of a turbine vapor). It was born from the meeting of convergent interests between Arcelor and Gaz de France. The steelmaker group wished, on his site of Dunkirk, to develop its gases of coking plant and blast furnaces and to reduce its energy bill. DK6 makes it possible to burn gases by minimizing the effects for the environment thanks to the use of Natural gas. But especially, the gases of the blast furnaces, them, are recycled instead of being flarings in the atmosphere.

DK6 is thus fed by iron and steel gases of Arcelor, like by natural gas since the Gaz de France terminal of Loon-Beach located at ten kilometers. When the power station turns to full output, produced electricity makes it possible to meet the needs for Arcelor (255 MW), the remainder (535 MW) being resold on the market of electricity.
