DHL

DHL is a postal company founded in 1969 per Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. It is the property of the Deutsche Post.

History

The name is formed by initial founders Dalsey, Hillblom and Lynn. Its activity begins in 1969 by a service from mail between San Francisco and Honolulu.
  • 1999 - DHL buys to the maritime transport company Dutchwoman Van Gend & Loos EuroExpress and amalgamates it with its existing activities in the Netherlands.
  • 2001 Deutsche Post World Net acquires 51% of the actions of DHL and will repurchase the 49% remainders later one year. New structure DHL gathers from now on DHL and the companies Danzas and Securicor Omega Euro Express train, which Deutsche Post had.
  • 2002 - Collision in full flight enters flight 2937 of Bashkirian Airlines, a Tupolev You transporting 69 passengers with a Boeing 757 of DHL to 35.000 feet with the top of Überlingen to Germany. This collision is due to a bad communication between the pilots of flight 2937 and Swiss air control. The passengers and the crew of Tupolev are killed.
  • August 2003 - Deutsche Post acquires Airborne Express and starts to integrate it at DHL.
  • November 2003 - an Airbus A300 d' European Air operative Transport under the colors of DHL is touched by a ground-to-air missile fired by the guerilla Iraqi whereas it has just taken off of the airport of Baghdad. The missile touches the right wing, making inoperative the 3 hydraulic systems and leaving the wing on fire. The crew succeeds in returning on the airport and posing the apparatus while directing it only by the variation of the power of each of the 2 engines, no other order not functioning. No other crew of plane had made a success of such an operation before even if the crew of flight 232 of United Airlines succeeds in controlling their DC-10 after a similar breakdown of hydraulics but the plane crasha on the track.
  • September 2004 - the expansion envisaged of the activity of DHL on the Aéroport of Brussels causes a political crisis in Belgium.
  • October 2004 - DHL announces the transfer of European sound hub on the airport of Leipzig in Germany (the airport of Vatry in France was considered but not retained)
  • the Plan Star is set up within the group by Deutsche Post World Net involving the dismissal of tens of thousands of employees.
  • December 2005 - the logistic group Exel passes in the bosom of DHL. After this acquisition, DHL then employs 285.000 people in the world (500 000 by including the personnel of Deutsche Post World Net) and has an annual sales turnover of approximately 65 billion dollars.

2005

  • Katrina Hurricane: missionnée to help the disaster areas with the the United States (missionnée by US AID).
  • Gillette: opening of a logistic center in Poland to supply the Central Europe. Gillette is in contract with DHL since 1999.
  • Philips: DHL repurchases the logistic center of the spare parts Philips Consumer Electronics Europe (110 paid).
