Short summary of the history

Towards the end of one 19th century imaginary and particularly Gothic, the young person Allen Walker is a Exorciste pertaining to a special order created by the the Vatican. The goal of this kind is to face and eliminate from the demons called Akuma, like that which created them, the Count Millénaire, of which the goal is to destroy the world. To conclude this combat, the exorcists lay out each one of an Innocence, left fantastic personal weapon.

Innocences

Innocences are anti-akumas weapons. They were created 7000 years ago. They were used to overcome first once the Count Millénaire, but in spite of this victory, the Earth paid heavy a tribe, this episode at summer named in the Bible, the Déluge. So that an innocence functions, it is necessary that it is in possession of a compatible person. There exist several types of innocence, but rarest is that of symbiotic type, i.e. innocence belongs to the body of its user.
(Allen Walker has one of the symbiotic type of them)

Exorcists

Also called black priests, they hold innocences to fight the akumas. On the ground, they can communicate between them or with their base with small flying radios called Golem. The exorcists are recognizable by their long black clothes and their crucifix bent on the chest.

Akumas

( demon in Japanese)

These are hearts of late that the Count Millénaire imprisoned in the body of a close relation of the victim to make his puppet of it.

The akumas are of human appearance, but can change into weapons for the combat.

They become also stronger and more intelligent while killing out of the human ones: it is said whereas they evolve/move.

Currently, 3 levels are known:

  • Level 1: the akuma with the shape of an enormous roughcast ball of guns with an human face in the center. They are completely deprived of conscience. Their attack is summarized with shootings of poisoned shells.
  • Level 2: the akuma gains an appearance and a capacity which are clean for him. It also starts to test feelings, particularly of the joy at the time of the engagements. To evolve/move on this level, the heart of the akuma must be corrupted.
  • Level 3: the akuma always has a clean appearance but is distinguished from levels 2 by the presence of a black carapace on their body. They can also devour akumas of lower levels and assimilate their capacities.

They can be destroyed in 2 ways:

  • by an Innocence: the imprisoned heart is then released.

  • by self-destruction on order of the Count Millénaire or a family member Noah: the imprisoned heart is then destroyed.
