Déwé Gorodey
Déwé Gorodey is an independence political woman and writer Kanak of New Caledonia, born in the tribe of the Mouth with Ponérihouen (New Caledonia) on June 1st 1949.
Formation and professional life
It passes its schooling to Houaïlou before going down to Noumea to pass its baccalaureat (Philosophy Vat A) to the College Perugia. Then, it leaves to make its studies in Metropolis and obtains a license of modern letters of the Université of Montpellier Paul Valéry. It engages then in a career of professor of French in private education, initially with the catholic college of Thabor Marie-Queen to the Mount-Gilds 1974 with 1976 then in the protesting college of C Néva to Houaïlou of 1983 with 1985. Thereafter, it will teach the paicî within the popular School kanak (schools created by the freedom fighters during the Events of the Eighties) of the Mouth of 1985 with 1988, then again in Do Néva of 1988 with 1996 and finally with the public lycée of Poindimié of 1996 with 1997. Lastly, it will give courses of history of the literature of the Pacifique and of contemporary literature mélanésienne to the University of New Caledonia with Noumea of 1999 with 2001.
The militant freedom fighter
Déwé Gorodey very early engaged in the fight for independence. It militates thus in the Seventies within the “Red Scarves” and of the “Group 1878”, two groups of revolutionary freedom fighters extremists. It takes part in 1976 in the creation of the Palika (Started from release kanak), the independence party of extreme left of which it always makes party and who is today one of the components of the Front of national release kanak and socialist (FLNKS). In the Eighties, during the events, it takes part in missions of the independence face in the Pacifique, in Australia, Algérie, with the Canada, Mexico City and UNO. If not, militant feminist fighting for the cause of the women Kanak S at the sides of Marie-Claude Tjibaou (the widow of the former independence leader Jean-Marie Tjibaou), it takes part thus with the latter in a mission of women in the Mali in 1992.
The defense of the culture kanak
Having moderated its positions, like the majority of the other independence leaders, since the Agreements of Matignon and the Agreements of Noumea, very as a militant always firmly for sovereignty, it was especially centred on the defense of the recognition of the culture and the identity kanak envisaged by the agreements. Preaching the development of the teaching of the Languages kanak (being itself teaching in this field) as of more the young age, she if not worked of 1994 with 1995 within the Development agency for the Culture kanak (ADCK).
Political offices
At the time of the elections of the May 9th 1999, it is, with Léonie Tidjite Varnier, the first woman with being elected with the Parliament of the northern Province. At the time of the elections of the government, it is second on the independence list carried out by Rock Wamytan and is elected member of the government Lèques in load of the Culture, the Jeunesse and the Sports. It will keep this station, with in more the function of vice-president in the two governments of Pierre Frogier of April 2001 at June 2004. She was re-elected vice-president in the first Government fallen through of Marie-Noëlle Thémereau and, once the second government Thémereau elected, she finds without sorrow the vice-presidency the June 29th 2004. It keeps if not the sector of the Culture but leaves the Jeunesse and the Sports for the Female condition and Solidarity.After the resignation of Marie-Noëlle Thémereau, and thus of the whole of sound government, she is re-elected in the new executive the August 6th 2007 but resigns immediately with the whole of the members of her list following litigation on an independence voice lost in spoilt ballot paper. She is finally maintained in the second government Martin of which she becomes once again the vice-president the August 21st 2007, always in load of the sector of the Culture, the Female condition and the Citoyenneté, with in more the responsibility for the usual Affaires and the Relations with the usual Sénat.

- Particularly respectful of the traditions, one of its favorite activities is to cultivate and to collect Taro, cycles which is truly in the middle of the culture Kanak.
- Married, it normally bears the name of her husband (Pourouin) to the civil statue but it kept in policy and to sign its works its name of young girl, Gorodey.
- Its Christian name is Epéri, but she prefers to carry its second first name.
