Dési Bouterse
Desiré Delano Bouterse (born in 1945 with the Suriname) was successively a soldier (instructor of sport), having reached the rank of colonel, a leader of coup d'etat, a chief of the armies, and a politician of the Main road Democratische Partij (NDP). It is one of the most discussed personalities history of the independence of Suriname.
With the Suriname, the shortly after the Independence on November 25th 1975, some sought to benefit from a favorable economic situation and a relative calm. Dési Bouterse, then Colonel in the regular army, took the control of the country thanks to a Coup d'etat on February 25th 1980. Its military regime in place, it becomes then President national Military council , initially leaving the President of the République in place. After having been itself briefly President (in 1982), it remains de facto the leader of the nation until his resignation in 1988. It remains with the first during this Guerre civil post-independence, being itself the direct client, even the author according to certain testimonys, certain massacres (" Massacres of December 1982 " , events passed in the village of the Black Chestnuts or Bosneger of Moiwana in 1986…). Benefitting from its diplomatic immunity, it would have also taken part in a holdup in Brazil, before being nicely brought back in its country. It will be maintained with the capacity until the beginning of the year 1990. After the return of a democratic government, directed successively by Ronald Venetiaan and Jules Wijdenbosch, it loses the presidential elections of May 1986, always vis-a-vis Ronald Venetiaan. The slogan of its party NDP was: “Leti has Faya” , that is to say in French “light the light”! … Humor? Another unfortunate candidate of these elections of 1996: Ronnie Brunswijk, its old military adversary during the civil war.
Having for a long time to benefit from its statute to direct a drug trafficking between America of Sud and Europe, he was shown on several occasions, and in July 1999 he was condemned by Contumace for traffic of Cocaïne by a court of the Netherlands. Since, a Mandat of international stop prevents it from leaving the territory of the Suriname. With the Suriname, powerful and fears, it remains free.
However, the years passing, its past returns on the front of the scene and the Gouvernement known as to prepare an legal action against the active participants in the massacres of December 1982. The 15 principal opponents with the military regime of the time had been killed by balls with the Fort Zeelandia. He claims that it was not present and that the decision was made by the commander of battalion Paul Bhagwandas which died in 1996. However, he claimed the political responsibility of it.
