Déols

Déols is a common French, located in the department of the Indre and the area Center.

Geography

History

Even if currently Déols is only one small town vis-a-vis Chateauroux, it is however Déols which has a past much richer. Déols was equipped with a powerful abbey to the Middle Ages. Déols declines after 1790, which sees the nomination of Chateauroux in chief town of the department of Indre. Déols sees the installation of American after the end of the second world war, within the framework of the activities of NATO.

Within this framework, is created Brassioux, city of the commune of Déols, built in 1957 for the American officers of the base of NATO.

American leaves the air base of Déols in 1967, after the decision of the Général de Gaulle to leave the integrated command of NATO.

The Americans leave and transfer the installations to the civil authorities from the department and the city.

Politically, the city was a communist bastion before passing on the right in 1989 with the election of Michel Blondeau.

Demography

Places and monuments

Vestiges of the powerful abbey of XIIe century dismantled by Cop of which one of the 7 bell-towers remains today. The door of the Clock (XVe S.), kept for its topographic utility. The few other vestiges which remain about it are:
  • the southern wall of the narthex.
  • the wall southern Gouttereau of the nave.
  • part of collateral north.

We can also see:

  • Neolithic and Gallo-Roman vestiges.
  • the church Saint Etienne (X in XVIesiècle).
  • the éco-Park of Chènevières.

A building site is currently in hand to release the crypt of XIIe century and its septs vaults.

Legends/Miracle

A drunk soldier of the Napoleon troops would have struck of his weapon the Vierge of the Kremlin (Notre-Dame of the Miracles), making bleed this one.
