Démétrios II

Démétrios II Nicator is a king of the dynasty of the Séleucides which restores the latter on the throne after the usurpation of Alexandre {{Ier}} Balas, of his/her son Antiochos VI Dyonisos and of the general Tryphon. Démétrios II is the son of Démétrios {{Ier}} Sôter, reversed and killed in 150 av. J. - C. by Alexandre Ier Balas. It takes refuge in Egypt and marries the girl of Ptolémée VI, Cléopâtre Théa, then with the military aid of his father-in-law, who is killed with the combat in the adventure, it invades the Syria, keep silent Alexandre Ier Balas towards 145 av. J. - C. and takes again his throne. At the time of this episode it takes the nickname of Nicator (“the Winner”). It must however fight until in 142 av. J. - C. against Diodote (Tryphon), the general of the king marionette Antiochos VI.

A known son of Démétrios II Nicator is Antiochos VIII. In 141 av. J. - C. it is made to prisoner by Mithridate the king of the Parthes; treated well, he marries the girl of this last Rhodogune. Furious his first Cléopâtre wife makes recognize king Antiochos VII Sidêtês , brother of Démétrios II with which it Marie. In 128 av. J. - C. Démétrios returns from to Parthes and takes again its throne towards 127 av. J. - C. but it is assassinated by Alexandre II '' Zabinas '' in 125 av. J. - C.
