History
The orchestra finds its origins at the 19th century in the orchestra of the national Opéra of Prague. The first concert under its current denomination takes place on January 4th 1894: with the program, works of Dvořák directed by the type-setter himself. But it is only from 1901 that the orchestra becomes completely independent of the Opera. In 1908, Gustav Mahler directs the orchestra for the first world one of its Symphonie nº 7.
But it is the chief Václav Talich who, during the twenty years that it passes to the head of the orchestra, gives truly to this one his international notoriety.
Today, the orchestra is directed by Zdeněk Mácal (it will be it according to any appearance until 2008)
