Cywydd

The cywydd is one meter employed by the Welsh bards of the late Middle Ages. It makes its appearance at the beginning of the 14th century and becomes the preferred shape of the bards until the bardic eclipse of the order. Among the large Masters of the cywydd are Dafydd ap Gwilym and Iolo Goch. It was the great time of Welsh poetry on the traditional meters, often called the age of the cywydd .
By its form, the cywydd consists of verses rhymes whose each worms is obligatorily in conformity with the complex system of Cynghanedd .
The cywydd remains still one of the more populairs meters traditonnels for the contemporary poets of Welsh language.
