Cyst ovarien

A Kyste ovarien is a small pocket filled with liquid developed at the expense of a ovary. It is about an extremely frequent affection, most of the time discovered in a fortuitous way during an examination of imagery (echography for example). These cysts are benign in the large majority of the cases, and have varied causes.

One distinguishes 2 main categories of cysts:

functional cysts They are related to the normal functioning of the ovaries, and thus occur among women in age to procreate. They find their origin in a little excessive development of a follicule ovarien. The Ovulation, occurring ± 14 day before the next rules (that is to say about at the 14th day on the basis of menstrual Cycle 28 days), is preceded by the recruitment and the growth of a Ovule (sometimes 2) within a liquid structure called " Follicule ". This one has usually a size lower than 3 cm, but sometimes it is larger: at this point in time one speaks about cyst. The main feature of this cyst (which one describes as follicular) is to regress after ovulation.

organic cysts Those, unlike the precedents, persist and do not regress. They are related to a tumoral development within the fabric ovarien. Attention the " term; tumoral" is not synonymous with cancer, moreover the great majority of these cysts are benign. They are more frequent at the ménopausée woman (at whom, moreover, a cyst is obligatorily organic, being given the absence of ovulation). The benign cysts remain stable or increase by size very slowly during the years. One distinguishes several types according to their cellular composition: séreux, mucineux cystadenomist… Also let us quote the cyst épidermoïde, curiosity of nature characterized by the presence in its center of true teeth, hair and hairs… The malignant cysts (fortunately much rarer) are characterized by a fast increase in size, then by the development of ganglionic metastases and péritonéales especially.

In practice, in front of the fortuitous discovery of a cyst:

If it occurs at a woman in age to procreate, it is most probably about a functional cyst: an echographic control is carried out in 3 months in order to check its disappearance.

If it does not disappear, or if it occurs at a ménopausée woman, in certain cases its characteristics in echography make it possible to take a decision and to affirm its benign character: it will be simply supervised. If not, in case of doubt, the surgery proves to be necessary: exérèse of the cyst by Coelioscopy.

Cyst ovariens in the cow The presence of cysts ovariens observed in the milch cow is often associated with a homosexual behavior of the cow (this one is caught for a male). Although this behavior is normal if it is momentary it is pathological if it is continual.
