Cynanchum

Cynanchum is a kind of plants of the family of the asclépiadacées including/understanding approximately 300 species. The etymology comes from Kynos , the dog and enkhéin , to choke itself. That refers to the toxic properties. The majority of the species are plants Succulente S, climbing and Volubile S (lianas). Certain species are cultivated like decorative plants.

Species

  • Cynanchum acutum , the Scammonée of Montpellier , is the only wild species present in France. One finds it in littoral, sandy medium (the Mediterranean). Photographs

Distribution

The kind Cynanchum is widespread in tropical and subtropical, and sometimes moderate areas.
