Cydonia Mensae
Cydonia Mensae is a relief Martian (Mensae) located par. It acts of an example of Pareidolie.
July 25th, 1976, during his 35e Orbit, the orbitor Viking 1 flies over around the 41° northern latitude. It is at the time of this passage that the famous stereotype of the face of Mars is taken. There at the time one believed to detect an artificial structure. Since, new photographs of the face taken by the probe Mars Global Surveyor with a quite higher resolution showed than it is about an eroded hill. In the zone of Cydonia near the face, a little more in the western south, it there another hill resembling a pyramid with five faces highlighted by DiPietro and Molenaar and named consequently D&M.
This area thus causes much interest, for those which would be tempted to think that there exists or was a Martian civilization. The face Martian also appears in the video game " Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders " left in 1988, i.e. before the stereotypes taken by Mars Global Surveyor, and also in the film Mission to Mars of Brian de Palma, left in 2003.
