Cycle water

The cycle of water (or hydrological cycle ) is a biogeochemical Cycle terrestrial. The Science which studies the cycle of water is the Hydrologie. It can break up into Hydrogéologie (underground hydrology), Hydrologie of surface, urban Hydraulique, etc

Earth with the characteristic to be the only planet of the Solar system on which the Eau exists under three states: solid Liquid, and gas. The cycle consists of an exchange of water between the various envelopes of the Ground: the Hydrosphere, the atmosphere and the Lithosphere.

These terrestrial envelopes contain water, in variable quantities: much within the hydrosphere, less in the lithosphere and in very small quantity in the atmosphere.

The water of the hydrosphere, heated by the solar Radiation, evaporates. This water then joined the atmosphere in the form of steam. The Nuage S are thus made of tiny water drops. This same water, at the time of the Rain S, falls down on the oceans (for 7/9) and the continents (for 2/9).

The circulation of water in the lithosphere borrows three ways:

  • the Streaming, while following the reliefs of the rock-mother;
  • the Infiltration, through the natural cracks of the grounds and the rocks;
  • the Percolation, while migrating slowly through the grounds.

More the process is slow plus water have time to interact chemically with the medium. More the process is fast plus the phenomena of erosion will be marked.

Through the infiltration and the percolation in the ground, water feeds the ground water (underground).

The Débit S of water can be expressed in m ³ /s for the rivers, in m ³ /h for the rivers. The rate of flow of the ground water is on the other hand of a few tens of meters per annum.

Flow can be stored for a time in the form of snow or of ice. Its cast iron is more or less important since the Climate warming.

The cycle describes above is primarily geochemical. Actually, the vegetable living beings, and more particularly have an influence on the cycle. The root S of the plants pump the water of the ground, and slacken some a part in the atmosphere. In the same way, part of water is retained in the plants. At the time of Deforestation, the cycle of water is strongly modified locally and it can result from it from the Inondation S.
