The Cycle thébain is a whole of four epopee S lost of the ancient Greece, treating legends attached to the quoted Béotie of Thèbes. These works were made up in hexameters dactylic and were fixed in writing at the antiquated time, probably between 750 and 500 av. J. - C. They are often attached to the “Cycle epic”, a unit gathering Titanomachie and the Trojan Cycle.

The legends of the Cycle thébain were largely widespread in the oral tradition: works of Homère, Iliade and the Odyssey , know a great part thus of it. Most famous are those of Oedipus, of the Guerre of the seven chiefs and the Épigones, popularized by the Greek tragedies of fifth century BC
