The world of Majipoor

Majipoor is a gigantic planet where human colonists settled after having left the Ground. This giant and fantastic world is used as framework with the imagination of the author.

The human ones which is installed on this planet must compose with the natives: Piurivars, called commonly changeformes or Métamorphe S because of their faculty to modify their appearance, refuses to divide their grounds and a war bursts. The victory returns to human and Piurivars are found parked in reserves.

Thereafter, other intelligent extraterrestrial races arrive on Majipoor, with the invitation of Lord Melikand because the human ones were not enough numerous to fill the vastnesses of planet: Vroons, tiny creatures having of many tentacles, a nozzle and eyes gilded; Skandars, giant hirsutes with four arms; Hjorts, with the friable skin color of ash, the pace of clamping plate and the mouth filled with cartilages masticatoires rather than of teeth; Ghayrogs, creatures of pace reptilienne, but actually mammalian oviparous animals; Liis, a race with the broad head, the black skin and having three red eyes; and the Known-suheris bicephalous ones. These races are not quarrelsome and although some of them have powerful capacities (Vroons and Known-Suheris, in particular), the human ones remain the most race, alive in gigantic cities from 10 to 20 million inhabitants.

Geographically, Majipoor is made of three continents: Alhanroel is largest and more populated, Zimroel counts some large cities in the middle of gigantic forests tandis Suvrael, the continent of the South, is only one vast torrid desert.

The political organization

The mode in place is a not-hereditary bicephalous monarchy. The Master of this planet is the Pontiff, who has all the capacities. He practically never leaves the Labyrinth, a vast fortress underground. The second character is Coronal. He is indicated by the Pontiff and succeeds to him its death. Coronal cannot be the son of the Pontiff. It represents the visible part of the capacity and regularly makes rounds on the three continents. He lives in an immense castle, as large as a city, located at the top of the Mount of the Castle, a titanic mountain, which would leave so the atmosphere of Majipoor of the ancient machines did not ensure a spring climate to him eternal.

Two other civils servant supplement this organization by using capacities of Télépathie: the Lady of the Island of the Sleep, which is the mother of Coronal and is used for to advise with the populations of Majipoor via the dreams; and the King of the Dreams, who is charged with suveiller and to punish the criminals (the crime is a very rare thing on Majipoor). This last station is always occupied by a family member Barjazid de Suvrael.

Thereafter, under the reign of the Valentine Pontiff and of Lord Hissune, a fifth power was added: Danipiur, the " reine" of Piurivars, which marked the return of Piurivar in the political life of Majipoor.
