Economic importance
The trunk of the grated sagoutier, gives after transformation a food Fécule: the Sagou. Very cultivated by the Papou S in New Guinea-News-Guinea, the sagoutiers are the only plants with correctly cultivating itself in these arid grounds under forests. The species of sagoutier the most used is the Metroxylon sago , Palmier originating in Asian south-east . Certain Chinese species of cycas practically disappeared because of this practice.One can also quote the Cycas circinalis , originating in the south of the India, which is Toxique and whose Inflorescence of the male feet releases an unpleasant odor. One can meet this species in gardens with the Meeting. The Cycas thouarsii , another sagoutier can also be met with the Meeting.
