Cut Grey

The Coupe Grey is the trophy of the championship of the Canadian Football professional.

The trophy was given for the first time in 1909 by Lord Earl Grey, General governor of Canada of the moment, in order to recognize the team amateure champion of Canadian football. Later, the Grey Cut became property of the Canadian Ligue of football and, since, is decreed each year with the champion team of the eliminatory series.

From 1936, the university teams do not have any more the right to engage in the Grey Cut. The university teams of Canadian football have competition for the Coupe Basket maker.

Anecdote: The Grey Cut was gained only once by a not-Canadian team (Stallions of Baltimore, in 1995).
