Cut Confederations
The Coupe of the Confederations is an international competition of Football disputing before each final stage of World cup so that the organizing country can test its equipment. The qualified teams are the world champion in title, and those champions of the continental cut of their confederation in Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Africa and Oceania.
Where and when?
Since 1995, the Cut of the Confederations took place every two years. She was initially played in Saudi Arabia then in Mexico, before being played in 2001 in the future organizing country of the World cup and in 2003 in the victorious country of the old edition (). Since the edition 2005, FIFA decided that the Cut would be played every 4 years, one year before the World cup in the organizing country of the latter. The four already qualified teams are the South Africa (organizing Country), the Italy world champion in title, the victorious Brésil of the Copa america and the Iraq champion of Asia
Trophy
When FIFA decided in 1997 to take again on its account the Cut Nations (Coupe of Roi Fahd), it decided to replace the trophy, because it resembled that of the World cup too much.
The new trophy of the Cut of the Confederations is surmounted by a terrestrial sphere symbolizing the world and its six continents. The name of the competition is engraved on two tapes which climb in spiral around the column carrying the sphere. The unit is assembled on a hexagonal base out of wooden, carrying gold plates with the name of the winners. Two rings Lazuli lapis lazuli establish the link between the base and the column of the trophy. They are engraved with the logos of the six confederations.
