Curtain
A curtain is a part of fabric of which the goal is to decrease the presence of an opening. It can stop the cold or attenuate the Lumière. The curtains are often hung inside the Fenêtre or of the door of a building to block the passage of the light, for example during the night to facilitate the sleep, or to prevent the others from seeing inside, often for reasons of Intimité.
Many fabrics, forms, sizes, and colors of curtains exist, and they often have their own ray in the Grands stores, with some stores which sell only the curtains. In the hotter areas, one uses sometimes the obturators of wood instead of curtains, the best insulation of wood allowing to preserve the parts at the expenses.
The curtains provide also a visual separation in situations like the Art performance, in which the actors make their final preparations for the spectacle behind the curtain while the spectators wait in front. Usually, the curtain opens when the spectacle starts and firm during the pauses in the performance.
It can also be used as separation between two parts in interior installation, or hide unaesthetic objects (electric meter, carries, etc). The curtain of shower , often made plastic or of Vinyl, prevents water from being spread in the bathroom and preserves the intimacy.
Religious significance
The curtain played a special part in the stories Jewish and Christian. A curtain separated the holy place, reserved to the priests, of the “Saint of the saints” in the Temple of Jerusalem, reserved with the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 26:31 - 33). In the New Testament, while Jesus died, “the curtain of the Temple was torn into two,” what symbolizes the relationship between God and humanity for the death of Jesus (Luc 23:45).
Care and cleaning
The curtains can be very difficult to clean. Often, they narrow or tear. Also, during the dry Cleaning, it is necessary to remove all the pins, then to give them at the end of the process.
