Curlew

Courlis is a general name for of birds Numenius, group of eight species of Limicole S characterized by a long nozzle, fine and bent to the bottom, and a especially maroon plumage with few changes according to the season. They represent one of the lines oldest limicolous Scolopacidé S, with the barges which resemble to them but have upright burners or slightly turned up. In Europe one generally indicates by “curlew” only one species, the ashy Courlis Numenius arquata .

The curlew find their food in the mud or the very soft ground, where they seek worms and other invertebrates with their long nozzles. They take also crabs and animals of the same kind.

The œdicnèmes, often named “ground curlew”, are not truths curlew (family of scolopacidés), but they belong to the family of the Burhinidé S, classified in the same order of the Charadriiforme S.
