The curium is a chemical element Transuranien of symbol Cm and Atomic number 96.
History
He was discovered in 1944 by the American nuclear chemists Glenn T. Seaborg, Ralph A. James and Albert Ghiorso. He is named in the honor of Pierre and Marie Curie.
Obtaining
The first Isotope of element 96 was isolated starting from targets of Plutonium 239 bombarded by Particules alpha (helium cores or) accelerated with the Cyclotron from Berkeley (the University of California). The half-life of new the Nucléide is of 162,5 J. The nuclear reaction producing this core is a reaction (α, N), which means that the projectile α penetrates in the plutonium core and that a neutron is expelled. The formed curium core has 96 Proton S and 146 Neutron S.
