Pierre Méhaignerie , Politician French, born the May 4th 1939 with Balazé (Ille-et-Vilaine).

Biography

Agricultural engineer, former student of ENSAR, Engineer of the agricultural engineering, National Forestry Commission.

He is the son of Alexis Méhaignerie former deputy MRP of Ille-et-Vilaine of 1945 with 1967 and former mayor of Balazé of 1945 with 1976.

National political career

Candidate as of 1968 with the legislative elections in the district of Glazed, the old circonscrpition of his father, Pierre Méhaignerie is beaten in the context of the vague gaullist who follows the events of May 1968. Again candidate in 1973, it beats leaving it UDR. He, as from this date re-elected appointed of the district of Will be glazed in 1978,1981,1986,1988,1993,1995,1997,2002 and 2007.

In January 1976, it enters at the same time the government of Jacques Chirac as Raymond Barre, of which it will be from now on a faithful support. He is Secretary of State then Minister for Agriculture in the governments of Raymond Barre until May 1981.

Minister for the Equipment, Housing and Town and country planning in the government of Jacques Chirac between 1986 and 1988, it is named Minister of state, Minister of Justice, Minister for Justice in the Gouvernement Edouard Balladur (1993-1995).

He is re-elected appointed for the seventh time the June 16th 2002, for XIIe legislature (2002 - 2007), in the Fifth district of Ille-et-Vilaine. He joined then the group Union for a popular movement and chair committee of supply of the National Assembly since 2002, after having already exerted this function of 1995 with 1997. He is re-elected appointed on June 10th, 2007 as of the first turn, with 52,68% of the voices.

Former president of the Center of the social democrats of 1982 with 1994, he is today general secretary of the UMP.

Local political career

In parallel of this national political career, it also strongly takes part in the local political life.

At the time of the cantonal elections of 1976, it is elected general adviser of the Canton of Glaze-Is and thus succeeds his/her father. Re-elected at the time of the cantonal of 1982, it is elected president of the departmental assembly. It will occupy this function until 2001. On this date, it indeed decides not to be represented and leaves its place to Joseph Prodhomme, elected under the label of UDF. It is the Plélan-the-Large general adviser Divers right-hand side of , Marie-Joseph Bissonnier which succeeds to him the presidency of the General advice.

Following its entry at the general advice, it becomes one year later mayor of Vitré at the time of the municipal elections of 1977. He was easily re-elected in 1983,1989,1995 and 2001. Its political action made it possible to accompany economic development and demographic by the city, in particular by making pressure to profit from a daily stop of TGV at the time of its startup in 1989. First of all president of the community of communes of the Scrap-metal Vitréen (CCBV), it is on the initiative of the creation of the community of agglomeration Glaze-Community while having supported the fusion of the CCBV and the community of communes of Châteaubourg. It is thus logically that he was elected president of the community of agglomeration during his creation on January 1st 2001.

He was also elected regional adviser of Brittany at the time of the elections of 1986. He resigns of this mandate in 1988, following his return to the National Assembly.
