Toponymy

The toponym Cuqueron appears in the forms Cucuror (XIIe century, according to Pierre de Marca), Cucuroo (1345, notaries of Pardies), Cuquroo (1385, censier of Béarn), Feels Miqueu de Quoquron and Coquron (respectively 1434 and 1441, notaries of Oloron), Cocuroo (1456, cartulaire of Ossau), Cocuro (towards 1540, reformation of Béarn), Cocurour and Cuquerour (respectively 1655 and 1657, notaries of Monein), Cocurour , Cuquerour and Coucuron (respectively 1655,1657 and 1675, reformation of Béarn).

It is composed of the pre-indo-European root kuk with a lengthening what gives kukuru, N being with the romanisation.

History

Paul Raymond note that in 1385 Cuqueron depended on the Bailliage of Monein and counted 16 fires.
