Cunelières

Cunelières is a common French located in the department of the Territoire of Belfort and the area Franche-Comté. It is administratively attached to the Canton of Fountain.

The village is located between Foussemagne and Montreux-Castle at 12km of Belfort, at an altitude of approximately 350 meters. The territory of the commune extends on 202 hectares, it is crossed by the Saint Nicolas's Day , river taking its source in the massive of the Vosges, close to Rougemont-the-Castle.

One meets the name of the village in the files starting from XVe century in the form Cournoillière or Loeffeldorf in the titles written in German. The village was formerly attached to the parish of Montreux-Young person and the faithful ones were obliged to traverse a long distance to go to the mass. Sometimes the risings of the river isolated simply the village from its place of worship. These reasons pushed the inhabitants, who were then an about sixty, to claim that Cunelières is an autonomous parish. This proposal was not adopted and the village was attached in 1780 to Montreux-Castle, located at 2 km. With the the Middle Ages, Cunelières belonged to the stronghold of Montreux and its history follows closely that of the close seigniory. When the field of Montreux was shared in 1458 with died of Jean of Montreux, it was the Frederic oldest son who inherited Cunelières. In 1803 the population was of 110 inhabitants, it was of 229 in 1999.
