Culture of Lebanon

Regarded at one time as Switzerland of the Middle East , Lebanon divides with this one, in addition to its mountains and its intensive banking, the refinement which usually develops in the countries being used as cultural and financial turntables.

The reason is inter alia history: those of the Cross ones which had taken taste with the climate of Lebanon and there had made stock learned quickly that Coran prohibited the loan with interest. Khalil Gibran

The poet and philosopher of the existence Gibran Khalil Gibran are known in all the Western countries for his work the prophet. This book does not speak about Mohammed, but simply about the lesson of a wise man imagined by Gibran and which answers questions that poses to him the people of Orphalèse on the life, death, the children, the friendship, the love, food and much of other things. The success of this work was immediate and world. With the biblical book of the Ecclésiaste and the Roubeyat of Omar Khayyam, one finds it in the libraries of much people philosophical or candidate to become it. Khalil Gibran is the object of a dense and quasi-permanent literary news and artistic whereas 2006 are one year of international commemoration as well of the character as of work, under the aegis of the pulpit of the Université of Maryland to the the United States.

Wadih Saadeh

Wadih Saadeh is a poet and Lebanese journalist born in 1948. He worked in the field of journalism in Beirut, London, Paris and Nicosie, before travelling, in 1988, in Sydney where he continues in the same field. He published ten books of poetry, of which some were translated into French, English, German and Spanish. He took part in several festivals of poetry.
