Cullberg ballet
The Ballet Cullberg is a company of modern Danse and contemporary founded in 1967 in Sweden by the choreographer Birgit Cullberg.
At its beginnings, the company consisted of eight dancers, whereas it is today made up of twenty dancers of several nationalities.
It is into 1970 that the choreographer Mats Ek is pushed, by his/her mother Birgit Cullberg, to invest itself in the ballet. It begins its collaboration with the Cullberg Ballet, first of all by creating contemporary versions of great traditional ballets such as Gisele , Sleeping Beauty , or the Lake of the swans , then while taking in 1985 the direction of the company while creating for this one of modern and contemporary choreographies. It will succeed in making go up his mother on scene to interpret the role of the old woman in Soweto , in 1977.
