Cujas library
The Cujas Library of right and economic scenes is a inter-University library Parisian specialized in Droit. It is located in the 5th district, Rue Cujas, not far from the Place of the Pantheon and the Bibliothèque Holy-Genevieve.
History
The Cujas Library is at the beginning the library of the Faculty of Law of the Université of Paris, open in 1829 to help the students to prepare their thesis, then in 1831 with all the students of right of the capital. The library was installed in the room built by Soufflot before occupying, in 1878, a specific room located in the same unit. In 1897, a new vaster room is built with the back of the building. From 1946, the transfer of the library on other side of the street Cujas is considered, but it will be effective only in 1958.
After the partition of the University of Paris, the library of the old Faculty of Law is integrated in the inter-University library has envisaged by decree 72-132 of February 10th 1972. It becomes thereafter an inter-University library with whole share by taking the name of Cujas library following decree 78-1122 of November 16th 1978.
Current building
Inaugurated in 1957, the building consists of two elements:
- the “House”, built in 1845 - 1846 by Theodore Labrouste (the brother of Henri), and which formed part of the college then Holy-Bores;
- the “new building”, built 1955 with 1958 by the architect Raymond Detolle.
Statute and access
The Cujas Library is governed by a convention passed between the universities Paris 1 and Paris 2 in the form of a documentary Service interétablissements of co-operation (SICD) but is attached to the common Service of documentation (SCD) of Paris I.
It is opened with the teacher-researchers, to the students of the universities partner of level license 2 and to the other students of level master and doctorate, like with the people carrying on an activity in legal matter. Other people can exceptionally be authorized to use it, in particular to consult specific documents.
Collections
The Cujas Library includes/understands more: 650000 pounds of right of all times. It has also documents in Political sciences and economy. It preserves in theory all the constant theses of right in France, that is to say: approximately 160000. It offers an important choice of periodicals, as well on paper as in electronic form.
The Cujas Library shelters an Information center European. It is also one of the eight French libraries agent of the documentation produced by the the United Nations and also has the documents emitted by the Société of the Nations and the International organization of work.
The library constitutes CADIST of recourse for the right. She is recognized like “pole associated” by the National library of France.
