Cuitláhuac

Cuitláhuac was the emperor ( Tlatoani ) Aztec of the town of Tenochtitlan from June to October 1520.

It succeeds his brother Moctezuma II which at the time is retained prisoner by the Spanish Conquistador S of Hernán the Cortes. It supervises the major victory of Aztec of July 1st 1520 called by Spanish the Noche Triste (“the night of sadness”), during which 400 conquistadors and out of the thousands of their allies mésoaméricains are killed.

Cuitláhuac dies of the Variole during the head office of Tenochtitlan (October 1520) and its nephew Cuauhtémoc succeeds to him on the throne.

Cuitláhuac, with Veracruz, is a municipality named in its honor, and a station of the subway of Mexico City also bears its name.
