Cuisance

The Cuisance is a French Rivière , which runs in the department of the the Jura in Franche-Comté. It is an affluent of the Loue, and thus a tributary of a tributary of the Doubs, and a tributary of the the Rhone by the the Saone.

Geography

Its two sources are in the Reculée of the Boards, close to Arbois. The first (known as small source) leaves ground in top of the cascade of the Tuffs, and the second comes from the galleries of the Grotte of the Boards, at an altitude of 250 Mr.

The cave of the Boards corresponds in fact to part of the network of Cuisance.

Hydrology

The flow of Cuisance was observed for one 15 years period (1969-1983), with Bans, locality of the department of the the Jura, located very close to the confluence with the Rents. The catchment area of the river is there of 168 km ², that is to say its almost totality.

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Bans is of 5,08 m ³ a second.

Cuisance presents seasonal fluctuations of flow important, with high waters of winter carrying the average monthly flow on a level located between 5,91 and 9,05 m ³ a second, from November to April included with a double in January maximum then in March. As of April the flow drops gradually to low waters of summer. Those take place from July to September, with a fall of the monthly medium flow going until 1,36 m ³ in August (1  360 liters a second), which is very acceptable without being severe.

However, the VCN3 can fall until 0,200 m ³, in the event of dry period quinquennial, that is to say 200 liters a second, which becomes severe (see note).

In addition the risings can be important taking into account the exiguity of its catchment area. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 or calculated flows of biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 33 and 36 m ³. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is worth 38 m ³ a second, while the QIX 20 is assembled to 40 m ³. Finally the QIX 50 was not calculated fault of duration of sufficient observation (see note). The recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 41,6 m ³ a second on April 7th, 1983, while the value maximum day laborer was of 38,8 m ³ a second the same day. By comparing the first of these figures with the values of the various QIX of the river, one notes that this rising was more important than the vicennial rising calculated by the QIX 20, and thus rather exceptional.

The Lame of water past in the basin of Cuisance is of 958 millimetres annually, which is very high, nearly three times superior to the overall average of France, and of course also with the whole of the catchment area of the the Saone (501 millimetres in Lyon). The specific Débit (or Qsp) is assembled consequently at 30,3 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
